Bootc Server Quick Start

You're in the right place if you've:

  • built an image FROM Fedora, CentOS or AlmaLinux bootc
  • pushed it to GHCR, Docker Hub, GCR, Quay, etc.
  • started reading up on image-builder, wondering how to deploy it

We maintain a small starting image that will switch to your image. No need to run image-builder yourself!

This tool is not required for Kheeper users.
Check out our Kheeper quick start instead.

Fully qualified, from any registry.
Optional for public images. Never leaves your browser.

A public image that reads your image from instance metadata on first boot, runs bootc switch and reboots into it.

gcloud compute instances create my-vm \
  --image-project kheeper --image-family bootc-quickstart \
  --machine-type c4-standard-2 \
  --boot-disk-size 20GB \
  --metadata 'bootc-image=quay.io/you/app:latest'

For any provider or PXE server that boots an iPXE script. It boots the Fedora installer with a public kickstart that installs your image to the first disk, which it wipes. Your settings ride on the kernel command line, so nothing about your install is hosted anywhere.
